At the beginning of the 20th century in Batumi the set of actions was organized, competitions between the strongest

chess players were held.

In 1897-1920 - in the championships of Batumi three times V. A. Basenko became the winner.

In 1934 Batumi hosted a match Armenia – Abkhazia.

In 1961 (26.04 – 15.05) female tournament of Tbilisi-Batumi ended with Nona Gaprindashvilya's victory, and

to the second place there was the Batumi chess player Alla Chaykovskaya.

1966 (26.06 – 12.07) – the international tournament among men.

1969. The USSR championship among young masters.

Since 1999 after the Palace of chess was built (Tamaris Dasakhleba), Batumi accepted a set of chess tournaments of a high rank:

1999 (27.11 - 07.12) – Team championship of Europe among women and men. Palace of chess.

2000 (26.05 – 14.06) – The first European championship among women. Palace of chess.

2001 (16.09 – 20.09) – the Match of the national teams of Europe and Asia with participation of Garry Kasparov.

2001 (06. 26-) – the Open championship of the Countries of the Black Sea basin. Palace of chess.

2001 (06. 27-) – the Female championship of the Countries of the Black Sea basin. Palace of chess.

2002 (13.06 – 27.06) – the Man's European championship. 101 participants. Palace of chess.

2003 (07. 25-) – the Open championship of the Countries of the Black Sea basin. Palace of chess.

2006 (17.10 – 29.10) – the Second age World Cup. 56 countries, 794 participants.

It should be noted that in view of successful holding the World Cup, Georgia acquired from FIDE the unprecedented right for

carrying out within three years of the European championships among chess players till 8 years.

2007 (12.10 – 23.10), 2008 (04.06 – 15.06), 2009 (05.06 – 15.06) – The European championships among chess players till 8 years. Sputnik hotel.

By this moment the Palace of chess was already someone else's property and the above European championships

were held in Sputnik hotel.

2010 (19.09 – 29.09) – the Age European championship. More than 300 participants.

Former Palace of chess. (to us granted the right to hold a tournament in this building).

2012 (30.05 - 06.06) – the Female world championship on fast chess and a blitz. Sheraton hotel.

2014 (18.10 – 29.10) – The age European championship (from 8 - till 18 years). 45 Countries, About 1000 participants.

Sheraton hotel and Inturist Hotel.

2015  (18.05 - 30.05) - the 16th Individual Women's European championship. 19 countries, about 100 participants. Oazis hotel.

2015  (01.07 - 11.07) – First International Chess Festival “Batumi Municipality Cup – 2015”

10 countries and about 300 participants. Former Chess Kaisa Palace.

2016  (19.04 - 03.05) – the Third stage of the Female International Grand Prix of FIDE of 2015/2016.

12 strongest chess players. Inturist hotel.

2016  (18.10 - 30.10) – the World FIDE Championship among cadets of 8, 10 and 12 years.

66 countries and 722 participants. Sheraton hotel.

2016  (24.10 - 27.10) – the First International Chess Education Conference. Under patronage of the Chess European Union.

It is organized by the Georgian Chess Federation. Inturist hotel.

2016  (01.07 - 11.07) - II International Chess Festival “Batumi Municipality Cup – 2016”

11 countries, about 350 participants. Former chess Kaisa Palace.

2017  (04.05 - 14.05) – the Championship of Georgia among young men and girls of 8-18 years. Former chess Kaisa Palace.

2017  (01.07 - 11.07) - III International Chess Festival “Batumi Municipality Cup – 2017”

19 countries, about 400 participants. Former chess Kaisa Palace.

2018  (16.03 – 29.03) – the Individual European championship. 34 countries, 302 participants. Sheraton Hotel

2018  (01.07 - 11.07) - 4th International Chess Festival “Batumi Municipality Cup – 2018”.

23 countries, more than 400 participants.  Former chess Kaisa Palace.

2018  (23.09 - 06.10) - the 43 World Chess Olympiad.  185 countries, 1665 participants. Sports Palace.
