The Georgian chess is attractive and attractive the appearance. The form of their figures bears in itself the Georgian national look. Completely the set didn't remain, doesn't get one is white also two black pawns. Each figure is executed from elephant and a bull of bones.
The hand of the skilled master is felt. They are executed distinguished and with taste. Figures are issued by a ligature of traditional spirals and plants characteristic for the Georgian ornament. The head of a horse is characteristic for a relief of ancient Georgian miniatures and sculptures.
The castle form, both in this set, and in Bagrationi_mukhransky's figures is very interesting. It is necessary to notice that similar we don't see a spherical form in ancient European or east chess. The Indian castle and, especially, Iranian and Central Asian chess is characteristic a bird Rukh (a mythical bird). Description of this spherical form possibly only approximately. It is known that in the Georgian chess terminology sometimes Ku (Bishop) was called by a castle. Term (the translation the Turtle) as professor M. Shalamberidze speaks, arose from similarity with the device for punching of walls of towers. From above these cars were very similar to turtles. Therefore Georgians by analogy with this figure called a turtle. If we adopt this provision, then it is clear why the chess figure "Castle" has a spherical form, and in this case the head of a turtle is stylized with the located architectural detail above.
It is interesting, but still it isn't found out, the second couple it has no one feature why one couple horses (one white and one black) has a mane. Some rule of the game in ancient Georgian chess is connected with it of which we can don't know.
